6 Speed Gearbox Plausability ?

Sat at work bored and I was wondering if there is a 6 speed gearbox option for the K-Series ?
I have asked on .org years ago but I never got much of a response.
I was thinking that the French made R65 was replaced with the IB5 from FORD, just wondering if
they had an adaptor plate or the housing was re-machined to fit the K-Series or it is a straight fit,
if that is the case then I wonder if a 6 Speed from a FORD that also uses the IB5 is possible, just
pondering as it would make the K more fuel efficient on the motorway rather than screaming at
2900rpm.

Easier to have the ratio's changed in the box than go through all that trial and definite error.

How many are on the roads? I've only ever seen one SAIC MG that wasn't at POL.

Fitting the box to the engine is the easy bit.
Making all the linkages work...I don’t even want to think about it.

I think IB5 fitted to rovers has a different bellhousing so it bolts straight onto a K series. Also think the flywheel is different between R65 & IB5 boxes.
What capacity engine do you have? I think there is a 6 speed version of the PG1 box available for the Rover powered Lotus Elise.

The Elise was S1/2 and Exige S1 with the K Series were same as the Rover/MG cars. Quaife do a sequential 6 speed if you really want one it's £12,000 plus vat

they used to do a 6 speed gear kit all tho I'm not sure they are still doing it for the PG1

I have been told that the IB5 is a direct bolt on from the KA and Fiesta, no modded bell housing, I find that
hard to believe but then again most yank V8's can use all sorts of different gearboxes so you never know.
I have an MG6 box on my watch list, its cheap enough but it looks huge.

A few MG6s about but not too many. They do seem to be tailing off already, I used to see a few knocking about regularly.
I've even seen an MG6 being used as a taxi

haven't seen it in a good while, mind...
I see MG3s more frequently, though there's only one dealer in the whole of Greater Manchester.
