I have a Rover 416 1993 model when I turn the windscreen wipers to the off position the wipers are still running on intermittent has anyone else had this issue?

Relay faulty

Is that the brown relay that fits behind the centre console I have already replaced this about 18 months ago due to starting problems and it’s been fine since or is it a different one? Thanks Beverley

No it’s a different one. If anyone can help identify the right one and where it is, I’m sure to have one from a 216 I broke a few years ago. Will be happy to send you it.

No it’s a different one. If anyone can help identify the right one and where it is, I’m sure to have one from a 216 I broke a few years ago. Will be happy to send you it.

I saw this post whilst looking through the board as my '91 plate 214 has developed the same problem. Did you manage to help Brum (who I have contacted but not heard back from)? If yes, do you have details of the part number/manufacturers reference that might help me locate a replacement relay?

Hi Jeff, I do have a number of relays spare in my parts box. If anyone can help identify the right one I’ll see if I’ve got one for you.

Thanks for getting back to me. Royal Mail have just delivered my Haynes manual and that says the front wiper relay is "behind right hand lower facia panel". It's going to be Sunday afternoon before I can check it out to see what part number it is. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

No worries!

I did check and couldn't find the 2 relays, only the one fitted to the top of the fuseboard which I thought was the one but it is for the heated rear window apparently. I used the Haynes instructions to do the MFU diagnostic check (fitted to the back of the fuseboard) and all seemed okay as the HRW, front then rear wipers and courtesy light all briefly operated. I did eventually manage to see what is probably the 2 relays (1royal blue and the other, possibly larger, orange) which are located well out of reach on the inner wing and according to Haynes for dip/dim and wipers. To access these it looks as though I'm going to have to disconnect the battery and take out quite a few parts/connections.

My 92 216 has the same problem.
Relay I believe is drivers side A pillar up under the dash
