414 Heater control valve

Heater has stopped working in my 1999 414. Fan and controls are all ok and the cable pushes/pulls the valve leaver when selecting temp settings in the car.The matrix inlet hose is hot upto the valve just before the bulkhead but is cool after the valve. So this is my next port of call in the process of trying to sort it. I cant find any info online or in my manuals regarding the heater flow valve. Does anybody know if the valve is servicable and can be stripped before I take it off or we talking a sealed unit. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

The best thing to doing is take hose of at each end and see whats going on , theres a plastic slide inside that opens and shuts when you move the wire lever on the side these jam up and also ive seen them disappear .
As far as i know they are obsolete ( hopefully someone knows were you can get new ones ) .
I have second hand ones for sale if you can find any , as far as stripping one down never tried they look sealed to me hope this helps
Just had seach and part number isJJB100210 early cars and later JJB100240 both obsolete but JJB100260 is available for a mini looks the same as anyone tried that ?

Thank you for the rapid reply 961tat . I will take the valve out and have a look tomorrow weather permitting and try a hose pipe through it. Might end up just leaving it out over the winter months and join the hoses up. After a bit more research since posting I tracked the offending valve down at Rimmers (
Valve assembly-coolant engine heater - JJB100270 ) and no way I will paying nearly £90 for one. If I manage to sort it I will post an update incase anybody else has a similar problem but looking at the pic on Rimmers site it looks like it is definitely a sealed unit. If it is buggered I WILL GET INTO IT

and see whats occured.

It seems the H-HW valve is a rotary type thing like a domestic gas supply man bits, whereas the XW ones were a simple sliding gate valve.
Perhaps the actuating lever has disconnected from the rotary element inside?

Think I have the answer to my heater problem. About 18 months ago my 400 was losing water and because of its age, condition and milage ( 135,000 now) I took the cheap option and added K-seal. Car has ran great since with heater working fine but i think the additive has finally bit me in the ar*e. Valve is working as it should but was full of gung (obviously cleaned it out) and this gung must be rammed in the heater matrix. Think it will be a cold winter ahead. I need the car every day and dont want to get too deep into a cooling water flush and anything else it throws up in the back street .Hoses arn't that easy to get at and it would be a lot easier to remove a few bits and maybe even the ECU for better access. Im just making excuses really because I cant be bothered

Always seems to be winter when I need to start crawling over and under the old girl , no pun intended. Will see how next MOT goes before I get seriously involved

Hey ho you learn something new every day . Thanks for the assistance and advice.I dont post on here often but for us Rover owners the forum is a real gem. Cheers
