Hi All

Little question with a simple answer, well i recon.

So the bleed srew on the rear drums was sieze up good and propper and got abit rounded off, be thats pretty common.

Anyway got a 10mm on in the end with the aid of a hammer and got it freed of, but obvs battered the bleed screw good and proper.

So Rimmer list them as LR015523 and do a pattern part at £2.22, no probs so far, but the prob with Rimmers is the post at £4.25 err double the price of the bit :mad

Can't find anyone local that does this part number but bleed screws are available if you know the thread and length.

So anyone with any idea?

I recon its prob M10 x 1 thread but dont know and could do with an idea of the length to.

Cheers Bean

If they have it in stock, bite the bullet and buy them.
Think of what you charge for an hourly rate and how long you have spent looking for them a couple of quid cheaper and you'll realize, sometimes it's not worth the fight.

Side note, the way to use rimmers and not feel robbed by the postage is to get a reasonable amount of items you want together first, their basket holds its memory for ages, and order when you don't feel it's too expensive as lets be honest, you are always gonna need more bits.

Hi

TBH not in any hurry at all and if they can knock them out at a couple of quid i'm sure other people can, if i knew the thread and size i'd pop down to my local motor factors and buy a generic version.

I just object to paying more for the post than the item, esp when it would go in a Jiffy bag and second class post.

But hey ho if know one knows.

Probably a LandRover part number - worth checking your local dealer or LR specialist

EDIT: Yes it is: https://www.lrparts.net/bleed-screw-fop ... y-3-4.html

Hiya

Yep i think its a common part used across many MGR and connected brands in the late 90's early 2000's, so common to MG TF's 400/200/25/45 plus various JLR stuff so not exactly uncommon.

Now in one way a few quid either way is neither here nor there in absolute terms but who is happy to pay more in post than for the item, esp when such a small item should cost less than £1.50 to post not the £4.25 they want.

I think they are these but was hoping someone would know the thread just to check.

They look right it's quite simple to measure the pitch basically you measure from one thread to the other with vernier and the dia which will give you your answer, or buy some thread gauges for future reference 😉

It'll be a standard Lucas Girling part. They made most of RG's braking components

Think laterally!

Determine the cost per mile in terms of fuel, tyre and maintenance for running your car and postage cost to use Rimmers (and Ebay etc.) pail into insignificance, then your local factor might not have what you want when you get there.

It is also ilogical (as Spock would say) for lets assume you need parts costing (say) £200 - you would then pay Rimmer's postage without thought - although if you are correct, it would still be cheaper to go to your local factor. Same difference.

Hi All

And I thought it was a simple question someone would know the answer to.

Yes I do try to think laterally and factor in the cost of driving to get the parts and don’t unthinkingly order from Rimmers et al just cuz I’m ordering £200 quid worth of bits. EVERYTHING I buy HAS to be the most cost effective solution. And that doesn’t mean the cheapest as quality counts, I def wouldn't buy a cheap water pump it would quality, probably be a genuine X-part Rover spec one, assuming they are the best now Rover don’t really exist.

So when I ordered the stainless coolant pipes for the wife’s TF I did get them from Rimmers and paid the carriage, which was way more than the £4.25 but that was because although they were the same price as my local MG dealer could do they had non in stock and they were on back order with X-part who were quoting “err 2 weeks, or err 10 weeks, err we don’t know delivery” so you pay the price and get the bits.

The MG dealer can get the bleed screws from X-part but as you say I’ve got to drive there so the simplest solution seemed to be get the size and order a pattern part from a factor who are online and get them delivered.

As you can see from the price at Big Red I can get 4 bleed screws delivered for the price of the post at Rimmers, if I knew the thread size and pitch, which I did assume someone would know.
