Rover 25 Diesel again!

Hello - can anyone help with this one? Car parked and locked as normal using the key (I had deactivated immobiliser using emergency access code months ago) Returned to car, opened door with key and at the same noticed central locking had not worked. Turned ignition on and got warning beep with red alarm light on. Assume immobiliser activated. I have remote in glovebox (reason I deactivated was because I've only one and if lost I'm stuck) but pressing unlock made no difference. Is the fact central locking appeared to have no power connected? - any suggestions please.

OK, having looked at your other posts, I see you have a 1999 car, so we can rule out 'Pektron ills' (Lucas 5AS system up to mid 2003, troublesome Pektron thereafter!)
Check all fuses: there is at least one relating to the central locking, but others could also affect the performance of the alarm/immobiliser and I believe the system is designed to 'fail secure' so that somebody interfering with the power supply will not succeed in bypassing it. If a fuse has blown, it could be as a result of damaged wiring between the body and tailgate.
You should still be able to use your fob once any fuses have been dealt with, try pressing the 'lock' button repeatedly until the car locks itself, then you should be able to unlock it again. Even if the central locking does not operate, the fob should take the immobiliser off.
Also, if the fob is held near the ignition switch when you want to start the car, the transponder inside it should communicate with the car (there is a receiver coil around the lock barrel) and take off the immobiliser.
Please let us know how you get on.

Hello - Thank you for the advice. I found F5 had blown in engine compartment box. As soon as I replaced off went the alarm and after stopping would sound again as soon as I opened the door. (I use the key having deactivated the access code to save the fob) After several attempts to get in quietly I stayed inside and when quiet had a button pressing session which eventually did the trick. Central locking also working ok. F5 according to my book is alarm/central locking. Can only presume on locking the car with the key and setting the alarm/immobiliser the fuse blew. When I came back and opened the door no central unlocking and no unsetting alarm / immobiliser. Wouldn't have heard alarm - fuse blown hence the thing going off when I replaced the fuse. Have prodded and twisted tail gate cables and had no effect. Fuse must have got weak with age. Leaves me with a question: If I removed F5 when the alarm / immobilser not set, could I lock the doors by pushing buttons down inside the and the drivers door with the key the old fashioned way. (Guess I should try but after all the grief no way)! I say this because unlocking the door with the key with the fuse blown did not unset the immobiliser / alarm. I know I'd have no alarm / immobiliser etc but it would save buying another fob which is more than the cars worth! - the fob I have is falling apart. I mean who would want to pinch the car anyway? Thanks again for the help.

Replacement fob cases are readily available, e.g. on eBay.
