Possible scam?

I've just been contacted by a very fresh member here: guyht65 (Joined: Sat Feb 11, 2023 5:11 pm).
Here is his message:
"You must have missed the post of louis09 about a beige screw for my 1994 214 cabby for sale some days ago... I asked him about it and he said it's still available with him. Here's his Email brokermills@gmail.com"

But there is no member named louis09 here and I can't find either any message about my missing screw or any kind of advert of that sort.
BTW I've googled about brokermills@gmail.com and found lot of messages about scams... :scared

What do you make of that? :S

Sorry, this seems to be the first spammer to get through our online checks in place since the website/forum was updated last year. He did not cause any red flags on the Stop Forum Spam checker (he did not register with the email address you were sent). I have now deleted this account.

For future reference, the best way to report this sort of thing is to use the "Report Post" or "Report PM" feature that is available on all posts and PMs:

That way it is brought to our immediate attention, and doesn't rely on me (or one of the other moderators) happening to read your post. Thank you.

Ditto! I’ve had a similar pm from the same ‘member’ about Flint Zenith front seats. I’ve been trying to find the post and member but to no avail.

If he’s genuine, I’m sure he’ll make himself known. Otherwise, he/she it needs to be blocked pronto.

EDIT Doh, I’m always late!!!!

Thank you for your so fast answering and sorry for the disturbance.
Next time I'll use that exclamation button.
But it might be helpful to other members to get every detail about that attempt.

I got one too but I've only sent my mother's maiden name, PIN number and first pet's name!

Actually I didn't get a message but its surprising that they would join a smallish forum like this in order to gain some kind of authenticity. I'd always seen them as being a bit more 'front on' in their fishing techniques.

Good info to know that this is another way they target us.....right, off back to Big and Bouncy dot com, I'll be fine there.....

Just to follow up on this, it seems this guy has been targeting a number of forums recently. The modus operandi seems to be to send a PM to all users that have posted a wanted thread, claiming to know somebody that has the item required. The user is advised to send an email to the brokermills-at-gmail.com, whereby they receive a response offering to sell the required item if payment is received via PayPal friends and family. Of course, neither the item or any further correspondence is received once payment has been made; and because the payment is made by friends and family it is not covered by PayPal's buyer protection.

Hopefully nobody on here has lost out to this scam. Please always be cautious when dealing with anybody you do not know. As they always say, if it's too good to be true, then it probably is!
