I am guessing one is an A and the other a B.

As skatiechik said, they have different model change designations. The GSI is effectively an 'A-spec' car and the SI is effectively a 'B-spec' car. I agree, the eighth letter on my GSI Vin is an E and this doesn't feature, it appears the single-point inj engines are missing from the list.The R8 Man wrote:Mine's a 1993 GSi, with an SLi prefix!
Plus prefix letter 8 is an F, but that does not appear on the list....
