I am guessing one is an A and the other a B.

My parts catalogue doesn't have my car listed either, but you can still work out all these details from the info I posted in the posts above.

As skatiechik said, they have different model change designations. The GSI is effectively an 'A-spec' car and the SI is effectively a 'B-spec' car. When the model change letter went from A->B they also restarted the numbering, hence why the later car could have a lower number.

Mine's a 1993 GSi, with an SLi prefix!
Plus prefix letter 8 is an F, but that does not appear on the list....

I agree, the eighth letter on my GSI Vin is an E and this doesn't feature, it appears the single-point inj engines are missing from the list.
Furthermore my letter 6 is a Y and GSI is not listed against this number?
