420 GSi Turbo ECU same as 220 GTi Turbo ECU?

#1 Post by StubbornPatriot » Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:38 am

Quick question - Anybody happen to know whether a 420 GSi Turbo ECU is the same as the 220 GTi Turbo ECU? I don't have access to the 220 GTi Turbo to check the ECU ID. Thanks, Duncan.

The only difference I can think of is that later cars (1994 model year) had the Lucas 5AS alarm/immobiliser and the engine ECU will be expecting a 'disarm' signal from the 5AS unit before it will work.
I think it can be 'programmed out' of the later ECU using the EKA code (if the donor car is still 'alive'!) or using TestBook.

Thanks for the replies guys - much appreciated. This came up on E-bay and I was considering getting it as a spare but I'm probably better off finding out what the ID is on my ECU and keeping an eye out for an identical one some time in the future. Cheers, Duncan.

Hi Chris. The ECU that's in it is OK. When things come up on Ebay (or elsewhere) that I think might be useful in the spares department, I quite often buy them, if they're a reasonable price (although I'm going to need a very BIG shed soon). Cheers, Duncan.

Always worth doing. Certainly with ECU's as they are something I think we will never be able to reproduce. The good thing is Rover did a decent job on MEMS and its pretty bullet proof.....

Im starting a plan to stock up on all ECU's for all variants. Create a bit of a library for them (and be able to pair them all)
