Fuel pump relay (Honda engine)

Post by Black_GT »

Hi, I have a 216 GSi and, given their known issues, am hoping to get a spare fuel pump relay.
The correct part doesn't seem to be available to buy new, however there is one for a Honda Civic is readily available and cheap, that looks exactly the same externally - does anyone know if it fits?

As an example, eBay listing number 314401200932

The connector key is in the wrong place on the part you're considering.

Search eBay for Mitsuba part code RZ-0063. There are brand new, used and copy parts available. But not cheap anymore, unfortunately.

The Honda relay components don't fail. Just the solder joints. If you're a dab hand with a soldering iron, you can remake all the joints and it should be good as new for a fair number of years.

RZ-0063, original Honda part straight from Japan:

Some people sell generic replacements that have compatibility with RZ-0063 and RZ-0028, e.g.:

On this basis, you could try an RZ-0028. Cheap copy part here, also referred to as RY156:

Thanks for this, I had a feeling that the one I found was too good to be true! I'm willing to solder mine but I'd like to have a spare in case I mess it up...

The hot weather seems to have made the starting problem worse, it went from occasionally failing to start at after filling up with petrol to yesterday refusing to start on the driveway.

I was lucky enough to have the car in a "non-starting" state after taking apart the centre console to access the fuel pump relay, allowing me to me to have confidence that I really was fixing the fault. Unplugging the original fuel pump relay made no difference to the symptoms:

* When the ignition is switched on, there is no fuel pump noise and the "check engine" line remains lit
* When the engine is cranked, it fails to start and there is no fuel smell

Plugging in the replacement fuel pump relay (many thanks to 961tat) resulted in the check engine light going out on ignition, and the engine starting.
