Hello ! I am the proud new owner of a 216 GTi and need to do some touch up painting. The car has zero paperwork, can one of you clever lot tell me the paint name/code just from looking or a way to establish it ? It does appear to be two colours, the majority of the car is the more golden of the two tones. Thanks ! Alex, Hertfordshire

As I've yet to see any two colour combination for the R8 be anything other than "Insert Colour Here" over Tempest Grey, was Tempest Grey the only lower colour used in the 2 colour R8's?

I thought there were 2 codes for Nightfire Red - CAQ and COQ, although most references to them suggest they are actually the same colour, just a different formulation. There is, apparently, also a later NFR III which is different, code CBT, but the OP's car won't be this one. I have an old NFR door, that I obtained to replace one on my Tourer and they don't look quite the same - I believe the door came from an older car - but it might just have faded differently.

Anyway, if you look at the VIN plate on the N/S "B" pillar there will be the 3 letter paint code.
