Hello again. Apparently it is the air inlet diaphragm that lets the air into where it mixes with the fuel. My uncle has apparently tried eight of them, and none fit. I don't know that much about fuel injection systems (I got a basic education doing a subject called roadcraft at school in the early 90s, but that was mainly roaring up and down the school's inter site road on 100cc motorbikes!!!), and I obviously don't want to scrap the car over such a small thing, so does anyone have any suggestions about making something to do the job, or another part to sub for it?
Many thanks in advance, and could I wish everyone that reads this a very happy festive season and new year.

Hi
first off, there's no need to consider scrapping the car - that would be very drastic given it'll probably be a fairly straightforward fix. Once you get it sorted you'll have a lot of fun with it.
Given the year, I guess it could be either a single or multi point injection (I'm not sure exactly when the changeover occurred). To confirm that, is the air filter a triangle sort of shaped black box on top of the engine, or an oblong box to the side? If you do a Google image search for "Rover 214 engine" you'll see the difference. I'm not sure what you mean by "air inlet diaphragm" - could you post a photo of that part - it would give an idea of what we're talking about.
Also, it would be worth considering joining the club, that would give you access to the downloadable workshop manuals, which will never come in wrong.

Hi again,
Sorry this taking so long, but I don't see my uncle all that often, so from our conversation, I'm assuming that it is the throttle body mounting. It was described as the throttle body seems to be, and he said that the rubber between it and the inlet manifold had perished and fell apart as he took it off. Also the engine is single point injection. That would also explain Rimmer bros sending multiple that don't fit, all I can find on there are multi point versions.
My first preference would obviously to find an oem for it, if not is there a way to get hold to get hold of something like the alloy one used in this thread
https://rover200.org.uk/forums/topic/16040 or at a stretch would gasket paper allow me to rig something?
Once again, many thanks for all the help,
Damian.

Hi
I'd presumed it was SPI but no harm in making sure.
It's been several years since I had mine but, from what I recall, there was a simple circular rubber gasket between the air filter and throttle body. I presume you're referring to the spacer between the throttle body and inlet manifold.
I think, I'm by no means certain and hopefully somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the same SPI set up was used on the Metro. In which case, if you check out Rimmers for part number "LZV1101EVA". It's described as "Spacer - Throttle Body to Inlet Manifold - Spi" and mentions the SPI 200/400 in the applications. Out of stock at the moment but due in soon.
Hopefully this'll be a step in the right direction.
