Morettes

Post by Vulgalour »

Did they ever make morettes for the R8? I've never seen one with them, not even a GTi with a silly aftermarket bodykit, and that seems a bit odd.

I don't think I've ever seen them on an R8, but Dist will surely confirm if they ever existed.

They did do Lexus-style individual-lamp tail light clusters of course... You still see these on Ebay but they're all used ones these days.

New pairs apparently still available here, along with smoked and mirror-effect side repeaters:

You might be able to do something with the standard lights? The glass bond perishes and you can normally take the lens off an old pair (or they fall off as you're carrying them from the car...). Places like car builder solutions do a whole load of aftermarket headlamp units...

As far as i am aware front light modifcations so far are limited to angel eye conversions and std rectangular spotlights similar to this silly factory bodykitted gti :glare

The angel eye conversions where truly shocking with glue coming off them all over the place and generally looked pants even after being done properly.

I wonder how difficult it would be to make a pair? I've got a spare pair of headlights that are fine except for the glass which is in really poor shape so I already have a suitable donor component. I want the front bumper and sill skirts off that three door now too, especially given how smart those integrated fog/driving lights look.

ACK, clicked on the link to the Lexus lights. I'd forgotten how hideous those are.

Individual headlights rather than integrated units.

For example, round dip and main beam units side by side to replace one integrated headlight with both bulbs inside.

That's a Roversport front bumper which are quite rare now. All 3-doors had the same phase 1 and phase 2 bumper (like the one on Zoidberg) as standard.

Fog lights will integrate into the standard bumper too - either pods for the phase 1, or bezels for the phase 2 / coupe. On your phase 2 bumper, they replace the sculpted air vents and require the bumper to be cut. They are different lamp units completely though.

There's a company that makes replica Roversport bumpers - I'll see if I can find them.

The best application of Morettes has to be the Citroen XM.

They're one of those period modifications that are very much of its time and no other. See also Mk4 Escort with blue tiger stripes, bodykit, three spokes or TSW Venoms and a lot of speakers.
