The 216 gti headgaskets gone thread ....

Post by syzsounds »

As some of you know i bought another 216 GTi from derby last weekend.
Suspected headgasket failure as it was only running on 3 cylinders ( A HONDA engine , head gasket failure ... surely not !!)

This is how i got it ,

Nice looking car but the engine bay is somewhat to be desired!

So ... Off with its head !
Ummm ... Mayo ...
Image

Number 3 Spark plug missing some bits ... Curious ...
Image

Head off .. Dirty but nothing majorly wrong so i can see ..

Hold on a mo ... Whats that ??...

rear end !!!!!

:( :(

What to do now ... Fix it , Replace the engine , flog it , or scrap it ...
Thing is , Everything bar the rear ns sill is near on mint .. the wings are mint .. the doors ..etc etc etc ... It would be such a shame to scrap the car as i really like it,
BUT

I have my Tickford as a project and im stretching myself a little thin .. and im going to lose a testicle or two if i carry on ..

Edit .. I have found an engine not far from me thats a runner with no smoke or rattles ... Christ im to busy with cars .... :blink

Oops, well at least you couldn't lose at the price you got it for. Something I forgot to mention, the clutch was getting a little high so would be worth doing that when the engines out.

If you're swapping the engine, why not look for a DOHC?

DOHC is the way to go but anyone wanting to make a SOHC go well, get some Honda P29 pistons from the states off Fleabay (and they are muck cheap) and stick em straight in. :)
