You may well have seen press coverage recently about the government's consultation on the introduction of E10 (10% Ethanol) fuel in the UK.

We, as a club, are members of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) and this is the response that they have given on behalf of all of their members.

Yet another cause of concern running an older vehicle and you can bet a pound to a penny that the E5 protector fuel will eventually cost more and I have concerns about its availability in years to come

Do we know yet what the impact is going to be on our cars?

It has been said that E10 gives slightly reduced fuel economy over the current E5.
We have been using E5 grade in our cars for years without problems, but my 220 seems to run best on the 99 RON Super unleaded. Have any other T-series owners experienced this?

If it has no effect at 5% perhaps it is diluted enough to not be an issue.

My 3 LHD Rovers are all fuelled with full E85: a special legal kit for the 25 and 2 resistors on air & coolant sensors in the 214 cabby & the V6 2.5.
Two of them (25 & 75) are working fine since 2017.
As the coolant was slightly leaking and the oil going slightly up in the 25 (you've understood! ) last month I asked my good mechanic to swap all the gaskets from the inlet to the exhaust manifold including valve stem seals & head bolts), verify, test & rebuild the cylinder head and change belts, pump & pulley BTW (all pieces - coming from DMGRS - were waiting on the shelf since a while).
He sent me pictures of every step of his work: all was fine inside and E85 has kept all the components perfectly clean & neat. The HGF wasn't due to E85 because it has sneakily begun just before. But coolant temperature being permanently controlled by HUD and every top up being made in time when necessary (and oil changed every year), never ever the engine was overheating. Always around 90°.
Hence E5 or E10 will not make any difference in your engines I bet.
Only difference: with full E85 it's 25% more petrol, but it's absolutely normal.

I've just forgotten to tell that just before the cylinder rebuilding I'd swapped the 3 year old spark plugs (Bosch 4 electrodes).
They were neat and clean as well, with a nice regular light beige colour, neither whitish nor dark brown, i.e. combustion looks perfect.
I replaced them with Bosch double platinum that I'd found out for a very fair price.
Moreover full E85 means higher octane, around 105, instead of 95 / 98.
Hence for example it gives my V6 2.5 a bit more oomph! given I've got some more fresh air in my modified box and a non restricted SS exhaust line.
Regarding the 25, the ECU had been swapped with another similar one friendly remapped by Steve Abbott (Saws Tuning)... and no pop & bang of course! only advance mod to give a bit more torque in the low & medium revs.

That’s interesting. I have a T series 420 but have never put super unleaded in. In what way does it run better, and is it any more economical? I might give it a go next time I fill up.
