Suspension springs change.

Post by Smithy »

The suspension on my Rover 220 was far too low and firm. So enough was enough this weekend and I persuaded Dan to try and do something about the level of comfort in my car.

We had a newish set of lowering springs in the loft which we set about changing to adjust the ride height of the car.

Here is a pic of dismantling the shock from the hub

and Dan undoing the top

This is a pic of the suspension shock as it came off the car. Look how deformed the bump stop is.

We also found out that the car was fitted with Koni Reds which allow the rebound to be adjusted on the shock. It came as no surprise that this was set to the firmest setting. It has now been adjusted to something a bit more comfier.

This is a pic of the new lowering springs against the old ones, notice the difference in height.

We rang around on Saturday afternoon but couldn't find any replacement OE bumpstops so we ended up purchasing some universal bumpstops from powerflex.

It was all put back together today and the car definately sits higher now which is good. I presume it will settle down a bit over the next couple of days though. The ride although still firm is much comfier. It is now no longer riding on the bump stops and I have some suspension travel so the jar is taken out of travelling over potholes.

Here are some pics of as it is now

Nice job, and a nice to find out you were running on Koni reds!

Is a trick of the light, but in the last couple of pics the car looks a really nice deep electric blue.

It is pearlescent carribean blue. It was nice to find out I was running on Koni reds, as I was contemplating purchasing some Koni Yellows. I am glad I didn't now.

Love the color of your car and I bet it shifts. Looks perfect height now, not too much space below arches which is great :)

Its actually gone up in height with the new springs, but at least there is now some suspension on the car, so it is a fair bit comfier. I also turned the shocks a bit softer as they were screwed to the hardest setting which seemed to cause the shocks not to rebound at all!

Look like moto-bodge cut springs to me. Seen it done before by the 'well known Rover tuner'....

They are moto-build springs and were installed by them according to the reciepts we have.
