i have just got a H-reg 216 gsi and i love it but it has one problem the engine turns over but the vavles are not moving i know the alternor (sorry spelling) belt has snapped.
how can this be cured
weird engine problem
Re: weird engine problem
Has the cam belt snapped also? If so then serious engine damage may have occured.
You need to check if the cambelt is intact or not. I'm not sure on the honda engines but it is usually behond a plastic cover on the end of the engine, (not the gearbox end).

Re: weird engine problem
i have looked to see if the camelt has snapped and it hsa snapped in 3 pieces. So i have ordered a new one and i will be stripping the engine and rebuilding the head, what sort of damaging do i need to be looking for?
Re: weird engine problem
Bent valves and smashed tappets are the usual things to break when a cambelt fails.
Worth checking whether the honda engine is a "safe" engine though. If it is a safe engine then the valves don't meet the pistons and so you just bung a new belt on and off you go without any damage. I know some early ones were "safe" but not sure about the ones in our rovers.

Re: weird engine problem
I know for a fact that this is a Honda engine don't know about an 'safe' engine.
Belt arrived this morning just waiting on the weather now.

Re: weird engine problem
I'd certainly find out if they are a safe engine, as if they are all you need to to is put on the new belt.
If not then the head will need to come off and and damage repaired as necessary.
