I KNOW it's a bit off topic....
Just about to get a Rover Metro 1.1S (1991) that needs a cambelt change. Does anyone know how easy these are to do, i.e. is it a DIY job for someone reasonably competent, or best left to a garage? Am I right in thinking the engine is a K series like the 214? If so, is it a similar process?
Many thanks.
Kind Regards
John

Yes its fairly easy! Only snag is the really tight bottom pulley nut thats best removed by removing the starter and locking the ring gear, be sure to add some threadlock before retorquing it (155sqftlb).
Loop the belt over the long run first (ie: otherside to the tensioner) to keep a taut run on the belt. That way, the auto tensioner will adjust correctly without the belt "singing" when the engine is warm.
Euro rubbish rats do a Continental timing kit complete with adjuster, not cheap but worth it.
Also make sure VERY THOROUGHLY that the water pump is ok and has no play whatsoever in the bearings!
Hope this helps!
