About time I put some pics up of the Gti's replacement

Post by harkins77 »

I know I've had it a bit but I thought I'd finally get round to putting some pics up of the car that has replaced the Gti.

I'll start by introducing it as it's not a wedge but a 620ti. And it's my first foray into the petrol turbo side of my Rover ownership.

It's a 1999 T plate 620 with 77000 on the clock when I got it and has been loved and work carried out on it by the previous owner.

There are a few little jobs that need sorting but nothing major.

I've carried out some work on it already including fitting a laguna splitter to it

And with the help of a couple of members from on here and other forums have removed the standard airbox and fitted a replacement filter and also fitted an MBC and dump valve.

I've also blocked off the recirc valve as well.

I've got plans to fit a boot spoiler and if I can find one at a reasonable price a Mongoose exhaust and also again money dependent possibly some vitty 800 17's.

I'm loving it so far. Vastly different animal to the Gti.

Don't worry it'll be coming off when I get a chance to.

That'd be cool thanks. I'm sure we can sort something.

Got some bits in the post over the last few days and didn't have time to sort them yesterday due to having to head off to Doncaster but I popped down to the sorting office first thing this morning to pick up one of the packages as nobody was about to sign for it yesterday. Turns out it was the clear side repeaters. No time was wasted this morning and I removed the old orange ones and clipped in the clear ones with orange bulbs included as well. Looks nicer now even if the car does need a wash.

As mentioned earlier i've ventured out to fit the mocul pipe and filter sent by Greg.

I removed the obstructing pipes out the way and removed the standard s bend pipe and filter.

I then offered up the pipe and immediately I noticed a problem. The blanking bracket I'd got off Dan was obstructing the pipe going onto the turbos sleeve all the way. Damn it.

I had a think of how to sort the problem and came to the conclusion I'd have to trim the bottom off the bracket as I couldn't trim the pipe otherwise it wouldn't bite on the turbos sleeve with the jubilee clip on as well.

I dug out the dremel and removed a bats nuts width and tried it. Nope. I trimmed a little more off and fitted and yes but i made a decision to fit the mocul pipe first then the blanking plate.

Also another thing I found was that with the filter pointing upwards it left no room for the dump valve to sit without fowling the bonnet so I made a decision to have it facing down and out of the way as you can see in the picture below. I then put everything back together in order making sure it was tight.

I'm just waiting for the hylomar to go off and then I'm going to take it for a run to make sure everything's tickety boo.

I've also fitted my DAB radio into the car. I just need to find a replacement ariel for it now that doesn't take a lot to fit it but still receive a good signal as the magnetic one I have isn't really going to suit the car.
