Question on lowering

Post by roller »

I would like to lower my Rover

I like a soft suspension and have been told that lowering will make the ride firmer, is this true? could I just fit shorter springs or do the shocks also need to be changed.
Whilst serving with the RAF in Germany some years ago I owned a 1961 Ford Thunderbird converatable it was like riding on air.

Why do you want to lower the car? Is it for performance or looks?

If you use a lowering kit with standard shocks then the ride will get a little harsher due to the smaller amount of suspension travel. Remember to adjust the bumpstops if necessary to prevent the car rideing on them all the time.

If you use a lowering kit with stiffer shock absorbers then the ride will get a LOT harsher due to the increased damping rate.

Yes you're right it is for the look, I parked next to a 220 outside my local chippy that had been lowered and thought I wish mine looked like that, but if it means a harder ride I don't think I'll bother.
thanks for the info.
