Post by jollins86 »

Hey there.... I bought a gsi engine to replace my gti one cuz the bottom end is on its way out... im not sure what the gsi engine came out of.....maybe a 600 or maybe a 400..im not sure...but will my gti L reg driveshafts fit into this engine? I know the gsi engine had different mounts on it..similar to the 620 ones...any help would be appreciated...cheers..john

Have you got the gearbox too? As said the driveshafts fit into the gearbox.

If you have got the gearbox from another car then check it to make sure that the speedo will read right when you've installed it.

The Gti driveshafts will fit any age of PG1 gearbox.

What can cause the drive shafts to go? I ask cus mine snapped in two on the day of my mot and the mechanic said that there was no gear oil at all :blink He said i may have a leak Image

Where does the gear oil leak to? I mean im no mechanic but does it just drip onto the road under the car :S

No need to laugh Gibbo there isn't anything funny.

The oil seals normally fail Scorponokx, so the oil normally drips out. It normally sprays up the underside of the car.

If you have just replaced the driveshaft and put oil in the gearbox I would keep checking it to see it still has oil in it.

With the car on level ground remove the filler plug (17mm bolt behind the nearside sdriveshaft). If oil trickles out then it is full. If not then it needs topping up through the same hole. (a funnel and a length of pipe help a LOT here).
