Red Rover (214si)

Post by nickh »

Hi there,

Some pics already up in the welcome section however thought I would make a proper thread for this car, as I like to do updates with my cars as they change :)

(and I have a new part to play with!)

The car is a 1993 Rover 214si

It's the pre-facelift one, which personally I prefer the look of, never been a fan of that chrome grill!

Headgasket has been done by a previous owner, however had to re-do their work as it was done badly enough that water was still getting into cylinders and oil was leaking onto the exhaust manifold from the cam carrier.

1.4 K series SPI 90bhp
AVO Coilover suspension
Silly bonnet lifters
Quick release front bumper (surprisingly handy)
Central locking
NO ABS
NO PAS
NO SRS

I really like the dash board illumination on these cars, how its both front and rear lit. Might sound like a silly thing to enjoy but it's the little things that make me like it ;)

Very clean car inside and out, garage most it's life, but I am going to use it, not just hide it away like it has been in the past!

(I have also done a large amount of sticker removal since most of these pics were taken!!!)

I have been on a mission to correct anything wrong with it more than modify it further etc.

So far I have carried out the work below:

Replaced broken wiper stalk
Replaced timing belt/water pump/timing belt tensioner
Replace headgasket and skimmed head flat

To do list:
Fix intermittent fault with SPI system (think its an injector issues, hoping its not an ECU one)
Fix radio wiring loom, speaker issues
Replace front discs and pads as they are warped, already have parts just need the time
Replace radiator, current one looks rather ropey like it might be held together with k-seal

Postman had a gift for me today too!

I had been struggling to find any Rover SPI parts at all, someone outside this site suggested I got on to people breaking Rover 114 cars however the reality I found is that most of them are MPI and the rest people are unwilling to separate the injection system from the engine. I was not willing to buy a WHOLE engine for the sake of an injector!

Luckily I managed to find via ebay a throttle body complete. It has the TPS, pressure regulator, injector and idle control motor all complete and ready fitted. It arrived today and looks to be BRAND NEW.

Seriously, it must be new old stock but it came in a fitted bag and if it was manufactured yesterday I wouldn't question it.

Apparently it is for a Rover 820e however I can't find any info to suggest that it is different (apart from a few different plug types, it looks identical. Going to fit it this afternoon and see if it is a go-er :cool
