214sei Refresh

Post by mr_ixolite »

Thought this might be of interest, Im sorting out all the bodywork issues and carrying out a full respray on my low mileage 214sei, (this was the car that belonged to gtijohn a while ago, I bought it back off him a little while ago)

Despite its low mileage of 31000 its quite clearly not been cared for in a past life, with at least one dent or issue on every single panel, including the roof! Nothing serious apart from some rust in the drivers rear arch which I have cut out and welded in a repair section, just a large collection of small dents / ripples and areas of surface rust here and there

anyway, it started off like this

Image

A days work saw all the trim, bumpers etc removed

Image

Tried taking photos of the rippled panels but the only one that came out where you could actually see something was the boot!

Image

Passenger sides not too bad, just a few small dings that need attention

Image

Image

Drivers side rear door was by far the worse, Top half received an all over skim of filler and was then sanded back to leave a thin skim over the rippled areas

Image

Image

front door just needed a small repair

Image

small repair for the bonnet

Image

Drivers side rear arch small repair, rot cut out, ground smooth and a light skim of filler to make good

Image

roof - lots of rippling here in a concentrated area over the drivers side rear door, paint removed and skimmed with filler (photo is pre skim, the low spots can be seen where the black paint is evident)

Image

Dust coat of black paint after sanding back and shaping filler ready for sanding down with the da at 180 then 240 grit before primer

Image

And bar a few details thats it more or less up to date, will get some pics of the repaired bootlid as im missing them for some reason, guide coat has been sanded down to 240 grit so im ready for some primer now!

Looking forward to seeing it in the metal when it's finished :)

I'm interested to know what caused all the panel rippling, particularly on the roof :S

Great to see this! :clapping

It's a cracking low-mileage SEi that deserves to be looked after :D

me too! my best guess is its been stuck in a garage (hence the low miles) and had stuff stacked against it
