After about nine months, I’m almost ready to put the interior back. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten where certain parts go.

Should there be a gap in the sunroof aperture liner?

Where does this plastic/rubber trim go?

I’ve no idea where this galvanised strip goes, especially as the gap is quite small.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks. I assume I will have to remove the the old staples, but is it necessary to staple , or will a few dabs of glue be sufficient?

You probably shouldn't have removed that strip in the first place. It's possible to just scrape the old liner off even from under the strip, then when gluing the new piece simple over-cut it and poke it under the strip. Remember the grey side goes on the fabric side of the headliner and the black side faces the roof. You can probably glue it but only do that on the back (black) face to the headliner shell. You may need to figure out how to hold it in place as the glue sets as it needs to follow the front edge contour of the shell when finally fixed in place.

If the galvanised strip is essentially the same as the rubber strip in terms of length and shallow curved profile, it can only go on the back edge. I've personally never seen one during all the headliners I've done. I assume the detents in the strip were to hold it onto the back edge, covering both the headliner shell and the headliner material. There's a rear trim strip that pushes pack on at the back edge, and I expect this galvanised strip was to protect the material edge from lifting whilst pushing the trim on, and perhaps to provide a tighter grip overall.

You don't put the sunroof aperture trim on until after the shell is fitted. The trim has a double channel if you notice. The top channel marries with a metal lip all the way around the sunroof assembly. The bottom channel marries with the headliner shell. I think fitting it in the car will not cause the gap to appear, as the metal lip on the sunroof assembly creates a slightly smaller aperture than the one in the shell itself so the strip "goes further".
