R8 drivers door

Post by MatthewL »

Hi there. Been doing bodywork on my Rover driver side which has gone quite well. I have a long journey to do over the weekend and tonight after testing the car was ok - I got back, went to shut the driver door…. And it won’t shut. Will get as far as first catch but won’t shut fully. Can’t see anything getting in the way (in the dusk). I rolled the door catch with my finger which seems ok for first and second catch. The door hasn’t sagged. All suggestions welcomed. Going to look more in the light in the morning

Definitely nothing blocking it so it’s either check strap which looks fine - nothing should stop that going in, or the catch needs adjustment- but the door sits flat when shut. Anyone had the same issue?

In all fairness the passenger door easily “flops” shut. The driver I’ve had resistance the last inch. So I’m loathed to move the catch. I think that would address the symptom not the cause.

I've had that problem years ago with the metal door strap limiting the opening. I found some bolts had come loose and the mechanism was a bit bent. Might have to take off the door trim panel to see what's going on inside, which is where most of it is.

Taking the door panel off is straightforward, but I had problems getting the passenger front back on when fixing a lock issue. It took half a dozen attempts to get it down properly on the inner skin lip

I’ve checked everything - it’s not the check strap or the latch position on the body … it looks like it’s a broken door latch -

Passenger and below the driver door for comparison - looks like a plastic bit is sheared off.

So….. HELP! Does anyone live near Leeds and have a spare I could buy please?

Yes.

I've a 400 with both latches. Get in touch tomorrow and we'll sort something.

Thanks very much! Have sent you a private message. I put on there that it’s urgent but in reality I’ll have to try to borrow another car so I’m just keen to get hold of one! Cheers
