Hi all,

I've had all my door cards off to access and relacquer my peeling door handles... I thought it would be a good idea to replace the LH front window seal at the same time. The old one was split and letting in a lot of road noise.

Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me now get the glass to raise again correctly. As it approaches the top it always misaligns and pops out of the channel at the top B-pillar corner. Seems like it's down / getting stuck near the wing mirror.

My first thought was that I must have moved one of the metal chutes the rubber sits in whilst I was fitting the replacement, but after over two hours spent messing about with it I've had no joy.

I feel like it's going to be something simple I've overlooked, anyone else had any experience with this?

It sounds like there’s a tight spot in the new seal, together with possibly a weak/distorted window regulator (the “popping out” thing is typical of what happens when they start to bend - they’re rubbish!).

It might be worth removing & refitting the seal to check the alignment/fitting in the channel, together with dressing it with a silicone lubricant. Brands such as Liqud Moly produce a spray designed for this.

I think what I might do is remove the glass, undo the regulator and start basically from scratch, and see if that helps.

Its the classic issue of without knowing exactly where the problem is its hard to target the solution.

You were right, the regulator was bent to hell. I must have done it accidentally when I tried fitting the seal the first time.

Pulled the whole thing out, straightened it up, and refitted. All ok now. Thanks again for your advice.


Side note, the door card design is absolutely awful. I don't remember Rover ones being this bad but they're a total bitch to get the lip on the top fitted correctly. Ironicslly I actually broke off one of the clips and then it went on perfectly after that.

For comparison, my Berlingo ones are a doddle to remove and refit

Glad you got it sorted. Quite amazed you managed to bend the regulator back into shape - once they've bent, that's usually it for them!

Agree the door cards are a fiddle, you need to be an octopus with a certain technique to get them back on!

Well we'll see how long it lasts but it is working for now so I won't complain!
