I just bought a Streetwise after my old car was written off by a ride on lawnmower. 2004, 1.4 petrol, green 3 door, 61000 miles with a year's MOT. So far it seems a good little car, I haven't had a chance to drive it much yet, but I'll be taking it from Bracknell to Portsmouth this weekend so we'll see how it does then. There are a few little problems as you'd expect for a 20 something year old car, but they seem easy fixes, the cigarette lighter socket didn't work, that was just a fuse, the heater blower only worked on 3 and 4, that was a resistor pack, I got one for £9 off eBay, the drivers door drop glass clamp must be loose because it comes out of its guides if I let it down too far, I'm sure that'll be easy enough to tighten, I've just got to get the door card off, and there's a bunch of wires from the car to the tailgate top right, they're all chewed up, the brake light and wiper still work but the central locking boot doesn't. Again, I'll have to get the tailgate trim off to get to those wires. It's had a scrape down the side which will need sorting out and I got 2 keys but only one fob and I've since found it will only start with the fob near the key so I need to try and get a spare. It seems to have been looked after, the oil is golden and all the fluid reservoirs are nice and see through, the inside is in good condition apart from the edge of the drivers seat is worn. Hopefully I'll get a good few miles out of it.

Welcome to the club.

You're in the right place for help and advice. Looks like you've got the basis for a good car there. As you say, most of the issues are minor niggles. The tailgate loom is a common issue on the older 'R8' models, I hadn't realised it was affecting the R3s, like yours. You could look at replacing with a used loom from a breaker but might be best to get a new one made up with more modern wiring materials - unless you have the skills and kit to do a high quality repair job. You missing fob (and, possibly the fob issue) can probably be sorted out by our friends in the Rover Coupe Club. You need to DM rjessett, on here, and discuss it with Richard. The dropping window could be a few things: When you've identified the cause post on the Tech & Diagnosis forum if any advice/assistance is needed.

The streetwise is a great little car. Good luck with fixing those little niggles and hopefully we'll get to meet you at a future event.

Thanks for the reply. The drive to Portsmouth went well, the drive back bought the engine management light on, however it was fine, it got me home and didn't go into limp mode or anything. I borrowed an ODB scanner and it came up with P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold. I've cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet so hopefully that was just some carbon getting cleared out, apparently it hasn't been on a motorway for about 15 years. I'll attach a couple of pictures of the tailgate loom, someone has already been in there with chocolate blocks, I'll have a go at replacing the sections of wires with some of that really flexible silicone covered stuff. Thanks for the info about the fob, I'll get onto him. I am hoping to get to Milton Keynes for the rally in September so hopefully see you there.

That wiring harness looks a mess! Hopefully cutting out the prior repairs and extending the harness with some new wiring & proper soldered repairs will do the job.

As Duncan says, the new fob issue is easy enough to sort with the correct diagnostic gear - Richard via the Coupe club usually attends most shows and offers a very competitive supply & programming service.
