Total cost

Post by bigdoggti »

The amount I've spent over the past 4 weeks to keep my baby on the road is as follows:- Full service, front pads and discs, rear pads and calipers £350, MOT £45, new starter motor £125, total cost £520, which non-believers would probably consider crazy and/or stupid for a 17 year-old Rover, but I don't care! The old girl still puts a smile on my face when I 'open fire' along a decent stretch of tarmac and pass with ease a cheaply constructed piece of c*#p which cost £1000's more, and who would have thought a 17 year old Rover can still turn heads even now!

And as for Alistair Darling, he can stick his scrappage scheme where the sun doesn't shine! :laughing2

Glad to hear it :cool

Incidentally I work on a lot of newish cars and they get rather expensive- below are costs for parts only:

Six litres of fully synthetic oil at nearly £10/litre (VW Golf)
Budget tyres £75 each (BMW 3-series)
Sump full of oil £90 (BMW M3)
Front brake pads £60 (MINI)
Replacement radio £850 (BMW M3)
Engine ECU £1390 (BMW 3-series)
Fuel filter £55 (Fiat Doblo diesel)
Headlamp bulb- BiXenon £145 (Renault Clio)
Ignition module £1600 (Mercedes-Benz)
:o

And don't get me started on the cars that you have to remove the front end to change a bulb..

Any claim that the scrappage scheme has any form of "green" credentials is complete and utter tosh. The amount of energy required, and pollution created, to build the new car and dispose of the old one far outweighs any saving that may be gained by running a more new, cleaner, more energy efficient car.

I agree, I think any 'green' pretensions Alistair Darling hoped the scheme would engender have been totally discredited, and it has been exposed as just another coffer filling scam (through VAT) by nu-Labour! :mad
