I am currently having trouble with my rover 200 bubble shape. I have rounded the bolt/screw whatever its called that holds the front shock absorber to the hub, the back of it is pretty rusted but nothing major and the socket end now rounded off. i need them off to put the new shocks on for mot.
Any one who can help i would very thankfull.
Cheers
Do you mean the clamping bolt that clamps the bottom of the strut into the hub?
Heat on the thread of the bolt may help but don't heat the shock absorber itself. Also liberally soaking it with plus-gas or other penetrating oil (not WD40 or similar), may also help.
An impact gun with a suitable sized 6 sided socket may also help. If the bolt is really rounded then grind some new flats onto it to suit a smaller bolt head size.
If you have access to a welder then you can even weld a new nut (or other bolt) onto the bolt head to give you something good to grip.
