Had a bad day...

Post by 216GSi »

I feel like I shouldn't have used my GSi today. A day so bad it's laughable.

1. Stone whacked the windscreen and has chipped it.
2. Radio stopped working.
3. Managed to break the aeiral.

So, point two - I pulled out the aftermarket radio to find that the wiring was done by a complete amateur and it was electrical connection box heaven behind there with frayed wires galore.

I removed all the wires for the radio and thought I'd take the car to "where-ever" to have the CD player fitted (something I've been meaning to do since September :*laughs*: ) - that was easy.

Put the key in the ignition. No clock. No interior light. Boot light open displayed permanently on the dash

I've got a new aeiral so I thought "while I'm here", so I tied a bit of string to the radio connection end and did the necessary on the roof. Pulled it though, it went OK...and then stopped. Gave it a tug, and SNAP. Broken aerial now stuck halfway down the screen.

Splendid.

Went indoors. Drank Stella Artois.

I did my aerial with fishing wire and had a big ol weight on it...... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee down it goes and gets stuck. I had to take the interior plastic off and bend the steal, metal or what ever it is right out in order to get the end down and all teh way out.

Check the fuses for the clock and light.... No idea why the boot light is on.

If all was ok before the radio was installed then surely its summet to do with teh radio :?

Who wired it up?

I don't know - the previous owner I assume. It was like it when I got it! (Honest!)

First of all, the clock wouldn't hold the time. Now it doesn't even show the time :*laughs*:

Time for an auto electrician me thinks
