...all may not be lost just yet...

My bro called to say that he's going to do the rounds of local scrappies trying to find a steering column in the morning...

Sadly R8's are quite rare in scrapyards nearby, so I hope he manages but I'm trying not to hold my breath!

On the upside we managed to get the bulk of the wiring working today including the ignition... however there's no power to the stereo or to the interior blower... so something is awry somewhere... so once again... any ideas would be appreciated!

(it's not a good feeling seeing the underside of your dash held together with cable ties... methinks a fairly hefty security lock, a hidden kill switch and some alarm deterrent stickers may be in order... oh... and fixing the alarm switch on the driver's door might help!)

Thanks for that!

So... the steering column from a Cab is en route from the scrapyard... I hope this works... it'll be an EPIC win if it does!

As for radio not working, check the fuses as they may have blown one or several trying to hotwire the car.

The fuses look ok... I'm possibly looking at the damage to the fusebox as the culprit, but I need to retrieve my multimeter from work... which will be easier with a sort-of working car!

Well... I'm back at work. Thankfully the windscreen stayed clear just on natural convection from the heater matrix and from the fresh air coming in... I hope I can get it fixed... the following items are still not functioning...

- Heater Blower
- Rear Demister
- Stereo
- Cigarette Lighter Socket

...and by the looks the door switches didn't take too kindly to the break-in (but those were on my list anyway before the break-in!)

Still can't decide what to do; there's a 418SLD on eBay at the moment... and if I can get the money together that would be ideal! On the other hand it could still be cheaper to repair what we have... any thoughts?

Depends on the condition of your car, if it's in very good condition [apart from the break in] then it's worth spending a few quid to keep it, if on the other hand the one on ebay is better than yours and at reasonable price then think about it. Personaly I would not buy any car I can't test drive and check round first.
