Rover 214si, tune ups???
Rover 214si, tune ups???
Right as some know i have a rover 214si (wedge shape) and i'm wanting more power, what tune ups can i get to increase power?? Just want gains on accelerating (maybe top end aswell) cheap ones, we're not talking engine swap or turbos!
I have a 220 GTi with an K&N induction kit, full Magnex stainless steel exaust with a Magnex cat by-pass that i recently bought and will add on Monday after i get an MOT pass
: New plugs i hear can help with performance but to be honest its performance a computer would have trouble finding as its that low :?

Agree with the induction kit and exhaust setup. What about these "drivability" chips you can get? Althought ive heard a few horror stories about them.
A few years ago, I built an old LandRover for rallying - not having much money, I reasoned that the less weight the vehicle was carrying, the faster it would go, so most of the interior went, the steel wheels were changed for alloys (lighter), all of the soundproofing went, and I cut several non-important pieces out of the chassis.
I`m not suggesting you go to these extreme measures, but it worked for me

Which version of the 214 have you got? Is it 8v or 16v is it Carb, single point injection or multi point injection?
In general if you have a 16v MPi, then there isn't a lot you can do easily and cheaply. You can add a free flowing air filter and perhaps a performance exhaust but you won't get much more power out of it.
Ditching weight is a good plan for a track car etc but not very practical for day to day use. Also insurance companies won't like it.

I'd suggest doing what I'm going to do when my SPi K finally dies....
Fit a standard 1600k, it should go straight in and give you a useful amount of extra hp and torque. My 214 is still having work carried out on it at the moment, cam belt and a new HG, but as long as the bottom end is in good nick and the engine does not burn oil at an alarming rate its staying put.
1600K's are about the same price as 1400 ones and if given a Land Rover head gasket should last for years. A good S/H engine should set you back what, about £350, tuning parts will quickly mount up so in the long run fitting a larger engine sould be the better bet, as a tuned 1400 might not be as strong as a standard 1600k putting out the same amount of power.
