Rover 45 wet footwell

Post by androver »

The driver's footwell carpet in our 2005 Rover 45 has recently been soaking wet during the wet weather. Does anyone know of a common cause? It is the upper side of the carpet which is wet; as the backing appears waterproof I wouldn't think the water is getting through from the floor side.

i have the same problem with my other halfs 2004 mg zs but on the passenger side. the windscreen is to blame. the seal will have failed and theres not much you can do apart from have a new screen fitted. you can have them re sealed but the chances of getting the screen out without cracking it is not good. we recently had a rear screen fitted and was surprised how easy the fitter pulled the glue off the car. he said its because the paint underneath had no key. from what i can gather its quite common on the newer mg/rovers (mk2/facelift). as with the poor build quality of late cars it was probably down to the penny pinching rover did towards the end and cut corners on silly things such as sealing the screens properly.

Dave,

I've received a reply on another forum asking whether the passenger side is dry as the mk2 zs/45 has a well known water leak through the heater intake, but it normally soaks the pollen filter and passenger footwell.

May be of relevance to you.
