216 GTi DOHC - Error Code 9

Post by pete2783 »

The twin cam has been playing up recently with an occasional misfire and throwing error code 9 which seems to be related to the cylinder position sensor. It started off being an occasional thing but it has quickly turned into a frequent issue and is now happening all the time.

I've read on a few Honda forums that the cylinder position sensor doesn't often cause a problem and it is more likely timing or even the distributor that can be the cause of the issue.

I'm going to check the resistance across the CYL position sensor and then look at the timing but I thought I'd post up on here to see if anyone has had a similar experience with an error code 9.

Thanks!

getting the timing right on the DHOC and getting the tension right is a bit of a mission.
Must have done it 6-7 times before it was right.

Thanks for the offer Carl. To be honest, I'm struggling to find time around work at the minute and the evenings are starting to get dark! The Impreza also needs a power steering pump before I can sell it so I don't think I'll be able to look at the Rover for another couple of weeks or so.

Just to update, I think this was nothing more than a poor connection. After a bit of fiddling, it has been running fine for the last week or so. Win!
