Diesel intercooler

Post by snowy »

Is it worth fitting an intercooler to a none intercooled 220D?

Thanks

Yes is the short answer.

You need a fair few bits and a little bit of modding but you can get more power and more economy at the same time if you are careful.

Easiest source is go to a scrapyard and remove the bits you need.

You'll need

Turbo exit pipe silicone
Turbo exit pipe metal (runs over the top of the engine)
Intercooler
Rubber intercooler pipes (x2)- they commonly split though.
Inlet manifold
Inlet manifold pipe (oval pipe that runs over front of engine)
EGR pipe blanks (if you are doing away with the EGR)
You'll also need to make up a bracket to move the throttle cable down so it doesn't foul on the intercooler pipe

We have hit 150bhp on a SD before but that was a bit modded and special
Normally you'll get to about 100bhp before the clutch needs upgrading.

I think thats it but there may be a few little bits on the way I've forgotten about. Best plan is to raid a donor car in a scrapyard, there should be plenty about!
