metel on metel noise

after yesterdays trip to longbridge i now have an intermitant metal on metal grinding
only happens now & again with engine running ?? im thinking power steering or water pump

any ideas

Try and narrow down when it happens.

If its the PAS pump it'll make more noise stationary when you turn the steering wheel.

If its the alternator it'll make more noise stationary if you put on more electrical load, so turn on the heated rear window and the lights.

Might be time to visit a garage...... :sad

il pop it into my the garage ive used for years only charges 30 an hour labour he does the things
i struggle or unable to do just hope it not gearbox related

was gona ask him to the cambelt as ive no record of it being done overdue at 84 k it was checked
when i bought her it wasent cracked or deteriated so it was put on to do lata list

either way itl be done like to keep on top of things

The Honda want's a cam belt at 60k 80 is pushing it I would have thought. I had a Ford Mk3 1.3 from new and the belt snapped at 42 ish K! :cursing

If possible, I would change the water pump and belt tensioner whilst getting the belt done.
Out in the desert with an old Jeep and a Volvo.

You should always change these when getting the belt done

its booked in for next week for cambelt water pump ect normaly id do it myself but the crank pully bolt bolt can be a
pig the noise could be the tensioner he said hes also gona adjust the tappets while hes on.

cars back new cambelt water pump oil plugs filters changed every thing adjusted went on a 10 mile drive
no problems

good for another 84 k very happy at the mo
