Should I attempt any more renovation work before the event - it doesn't feel 'show standard' to me yet......

Do what you can to make it look less battered (You've done well so far), but all the little dinks are part of its history. When we took it to the NEC certainly people weren't really looking at scratches in the paint or the drooping headlining! It got the most interest of all on the stand and there were some nice looking cars there (Tom's 400 GSi turbo I think).
If you can get the lights working then that would be a good move as it did make the whole thing look more alive and show-like. I'll have to see if I can dig out a photo.
