help with my 214sei PLEASE

Post by Markh214 »

hi guys right i am desperate now, i have a 1995 rover 214sei and need helpbad with her.
1st problem. she has a small battary drain when all locked up she is reading 0.46 on volt tester.
if she is left for 2days then the battary is dead, but if used daily she is ok. we have changed the battery, the alternator but still the same. (this fault has been going on for about 4 months)

2nd fault theatre day i jump started her to go to take her to our unit to try find the drain but when she warmed up she stared to missfire and wouldn't recover 2000rpm so we parked her up for a couple of hours then started her up and she was fine until she warmed up again but this time she was backfiring at around 3500 t0 4000rpm and it was like the rev limiter was at 4000pm
we have changed the plugs, leads, dissy cap, rotory arm, and coil pack. but we are now stuck on this and are thinking it might be the ecu

if this is the case she might have to be broke and that brakes my hart    so if anyone can help me save her please help

Issue 1:

Possibly teaching you to suck eggs here, but as you have identified the drain, have you tried taking the fuses out in order to try and find the circuit affected.
Possibly even try the easy stuff first, all interior bulbs.

Issue 2:

Sorry but you would have done the same as me. Mines done the same, but have just changed the dizzy and all seems sorted (Hopefully)
Doubt its the ECU, When was the cambelt last done as if the elctrical things have all been changed. Timing is the nest thing to check.

Where abouts are you, as someone may be local to swap known working parts etc.

Hopefully you get it sorted. If not drop me a pm as always wanted an SEi.

Cheers

thanks dave,

we have ruled out all lights and pulled all fuses. now the only fuse that got ride of the drain was the main big main fuse under the bonnet.

im in oldham. and tonight i will be changing the throttle body to see if this helps and get a crank sensor tomorrow

Dont forget things like the exhaust, i have had alsorts of odd issues that turned out to be something wrong with the exhaust flow.

The Rover had and issue with the cat and soot, but once these were sorted vroooooooom

Our Fiat Punto speedgear had noises and issues i had never had before and no matter where i sent it they couldnt fix it, passed mot and everything, i thought the cvt gearbox was fckd, but oh no bloody exhaust not allowing airflow when being driven and the dumb garages dont test them being driven do they as its too much trouble

I think reading this thread was the kiss of death for my car. Its now doing exactly the same thing.

Probably was doing the same thing before but only done short journeys since changing the spark plugs and dizzy. Went out for a longer drive last night and car showed the same symptoms when warm.

Aware mine has a leaking inlet manifold gasket that I've been meaning to change, but cant figure out why the issue only happens when the car gets up to temperature.

Mark, Any luck with yours????
