Help

Post by tesrover »

I have had rovers most of my car life first was 220 GSi with few basic mods & dyno'd 148bhp.
But i was stupid & sold to be with a bird (bad mistake).
Also 420,620,620 ti which acidently done 140mph crusing,216 GTi,220 GTi.
I currently use a 214 SLi as a runabout saving money due to good fuel consumption with its 1.4 twin cam & low tax group.

I'm saving the money for a new car next year,but dont rearly want to deviate from rover.
I do also like the MG ZS 180 with the V6 engine tho.
I loved my 220 GSi but was young & got in debt,didn't rearlise how expensive modifying a car was.
I would like to do it all properly now do my research,but in need help in doing so.
I have a few ideas but looking for someone to help rearlisticly *laughs*.
Can someone please help if you havn't fallen alsleep if have read my essay *laughs*

Well if you ask some questions or suggest some specific mods then I'm sure lots of people will chip in with an opinion or 7 :D

Yeah help would be good.
As said dont rearly wana deviate from rover.
I would like another 220 GSi or GTi.
I like the tuning potential of turbo,the standard t25 is ok.
Like a 220 coupe turbo i test drove,bloke said to keep puting my foot down so done 140 in forth gear revs go up fuel goes down.
Love the coupe style but need practability of a hatch rearly.
Was debating on the 400 series but would need to have engine transplant.
Does anyone know about engine transplants?

400 wedges came with the T16 turbo engine in it.
400 bubbles didn't but they did come in T16 NASP form, making the conversion fairly easy.

Where would i have to go to see about costs & that for engine transplants in the staffordshire area?
I do like the 400 bubble as well as the 200 series but never had 1.
Still like the thought of a 2.5 v6 in the 400 or 200 maybe with turbo as well,or am i getting ahead of myself *laughs*.

The T16 turbo is more powerful and more reliable than the KV6 engine so if you want something quick and easy then T16 is the way to go.

If you want someone to do an engine conversion, I can recommend a few people. Whatever you do don't go to RSM or whatever he is calling himself now (George Macmurdie), as his name is generally mud in the rover world with allogations of ripping people off left right and centre.

I do like the tuning potential with the turbo.
As standard is bit sluggish for me but dont know much about the kv6 anyway.
i still trying to work it all out for next year.
The 200 series is harder to come by in good condition is the prob.
But with the 400 bubble would be forced to do engine transplant,but slightly newer.
In the modified world i prefer the older car vs newer.
Just a bit worried with safety for my son,i will get basic body kit but put more into engine.
But not sure how well the 200/400 chassis are with age.
The rust around the wheel arches,seals engine bay etc seems to be common problem.
Alot of people havn't looked after them like they should have.
I used to clean my 220 GSi twice a week,but i did live in the country

KV6 specs
Max. output 177.4 PS (175.0 bhp) (130.5 kW)
@6500 rpm
Max. torque 240.0 Nm (177 lbft) (24.5 kgm)
@4000 rpm

T16 turbo specs
Max. output
(DIN) 199.7 PS (197.0 bhp) (146.9 kW)
@6100 rpm
Max. torque
(DIN) 232.5 Nm (171 lbft) (23.7 kgm)
@2100 rpm

The T16 wins hands down for power and as the torque is artifically limited as standard on the T16, it wins on torque as well once the limiter is removed.

T16 turbo isn't slugish to start with for most people. I guess it depends on what you are used to driving. But seeing as the coupe turbo has a 0-60 time sub 7 seconds, most people wouldn't class it as slow.

Spose weight on kv6 has big impact as well.
Test drove the 220 coupe turbo was nice,just big laggy.
Obviously just need few mods.
Had a 620 ti 140 felt like 70,but that saloon & blew the engine up on it.
Has anyone tried the VTEC engines in rover i assume not easy or would see more around.
But some of the rovers have honda engines in like i had a 620 si which was honda.
Like the 2.2 from prelude or type-R from the old accord then add turbo

laggy? No, the 220 has virtually no lag, as the turbo is so small. Infact full boost is achieved by 2250rpm usually. As standard you are hard pushed to guess it is a turbo at all.
