Diagnostic correct: NEED steering pump

Post by mrsimon »

You guys are amazing. Once again, a correct diagnosis.
I need a steering pump and 'kit' I suppose. It's the 2001 Rover 45 V6.
I've been looking on internet and think I've found the part.
I'd really appreciate some help in choosing the right part.
Is this correct?

Do I need to order anything else?
Thanks :) :)

Have you cross referenced part numbers to RIMMERS parts list Simon?

Hi, No. I searched for the part on their site and a 'steering pump' wasn't available.
Should i drop them a line anyway.

Just seen that the product on ebay in my message is for the later model.

From Rimmer Bros website, this appears to be the correct part (although they have no stock):
From Year-2000, From SN-471064, CP Type-VIN, Qty Req-1, Application-Automatic - KV6 Engine
QVB101490

At least that gives you a part number to work with, and here are some possible sources:

Thanks :) :)
A quantity of the correct power steering fluid, as a it would be worth 'refreshing' what you've got in there. If you have access underneath the car you could drain it from the bottom rack connection too but disposing of the old stuff in the reservoir will give you about 50:50 new to old.

Have trays ready as it's a messy job but at least bleeding the system is easy :D

Good luck!

Thanks. The first problem is that Rimmers say they will never have the part again!
The other bad news is that I've only found one, and it's 246GBP !!!
The mechanic has got it up on an elevator and found that I've got a couple of sweating tubes, need a new palier cover and new brake discs!
This isn't a hobby car, so it's not good news. But why should I be surprised when the car is 17 years old!!

The mechanic says he'll try and get the pump fixed. If not, then I'll just have to bite the bullet.

If more things go Pete Tong, I may consider selling it :sad

Are the "sweating tubes" PAS pipes? We're working on sourcing replacements but Brakequip will probably be able to repair yours if they're off the car...

And what's a "palier cover"? :S

New brake discs after 17 years is pretty good too :laughing2

Working on the basis of the mechanic's main language not being English, I threw 'palier' at a couple of online translation tools and it comes back as the French word for 'bearing'

So, a new bearing cover is needed. Just need to know which bearing, now :wink3
