This has been a subject I have been dealing with for a while, like a lot of other Cabby and Coupe
owners the ribbed rubber grommet that houses the tailgate and boot loom is taped up from a
previous botched repair or just general wear .

I have been after a good condition replacement for a while now and a couple of interesting comments
in my 'Wanted' thread came up.

We need to see if we can get this part re-manufactured as they all go.

I'm in the process of buying one of these in 'good nick' - then all I need to do is find if 3D printing in rubber works

Can you 3d print in Silicone ?

Kevin Willis has kindly lent me a brand new one of these for me to investigate it remanufacture - let's see what the world of 3D printing has to offer

So as it stands Sir GTi of John is leading the charge for a possible option of re-manufacturing these items,
961tat is also looking into this avenue.

Earlier on this evening while looking for parts that are from a Land Rover that fit the R8 got me thinking, did
the Land Rover folks use the same or similar loom for their cars, this rabbit hole got me searching all over
ebay to find 'alternative' rubber grommets from other cars, the OEM unit has square ends and it is quite long
so I had to look hard, this is what I have come up with so far for an alternatives that may fit.

The end that fits into the aperture in boot lid and body is 22mm x 41mm that the measurement of the rubber , the rubber ends are 20 deg to each other and not 90deg opposed as in some of you pictures , bad design really they all ways get trap in the lid , perhaps a trip to the breaker and look what other may disscover a alternative.

Plus even if I could find something that would engage with the metal I would just fill gaps with silicone.

Model done , so now the hard bit getting it printed.

Have you not even got both ends ? Glue rubber tube between them or heatshink .
