Putting £ in
So who has put more money into a Rover than it’s worth simply because you love them, knowing full well you won’t get it back?!

Me for one, but there is no accounting for illogical action when you fall in love.
Even now I would spend money a shedload of money on my 23 year old rather than think of it going for scrap.

£4487 for 107K since 2005 plus £60 purchase works out at 4p per mile for the one
£2048 for £30 since 2012 plus £250 purchase (inflation!) works out at 6.8p per mile for the new scrap one
However I dread to think what the time I would have to charge in this as this is only all parts from spares panels oil and consumables so perhaps not the best comparison as there are no labour costs in this at all.
I know my Fiat 500 cost me £3.5K in parts and when I worked out the time it was nearer to £25K labour costs minimum. Taking this as a ratio of costs I would perhaps suggest a staggering £46K in labour costs making about £50K total spend for the two cars and about 130K miles.
Thank God I do not pay myself these figures or I would be broke!!!!

I’m £8k into a coupe I’ve owned for 9 years and have never driven.

I've just done a spending of love with my 214 cabby: purchased for 2,500€ (£2,100), plus as much in pieces & mechanic's labour...
Mind that prices on the continent are far much higher than in the mainland!
But no regret, I love it!

Purchased my 220 for £400 back in 2013
Paid £70 to have it towed from Redditch back to Dudley
(The car was running fine but had no MOT)
I got it on the road in 2015, All repairs were done by myself so about £12 for a track rod end, £45 for a sill repair panel and £50 for two wings.
In 4 years and 30k on the road i have spent about £2000 in parts and labour for repairs.
Total to date: £2577
And it still needs a full respray

Which sounds like pretty good economics, compared to newer cars which depreciate
Out in the desert with an old Jeep and a Volvo.
