I'm having brake troubles.
A while back i noticed the brake light on the dash flickering, not all the time, brakes were fine so i checked the fluid and all was ok. I thought it might just be a dodgy wire on the reservoir lid or a dodgy handbrake sensor.
fast forward a few weeks and now the drivers caliper is sticking, got back from a long run and the wheel was really hot. Could the two be linked?
I've yet to investigate but i know the fluid will probably need a change now. Dodgy caliper or collapsed hose maybe?
Its a '99 416 auto
thanks

Re: Brake issues
the flickering light is probably a loose handbrake cable or as you have already checked the fluid level in the brake reservoir
Re: Brake issues
Is the light still flickering now the calliper appears to be sticking ? Just wondering if its a pad wear sensor , if 99MY have them.
Re: Brake issues
Pad wear warning is done audibly - there's a metal finger that scrapes on the disc when the pad material wears down.
Assuming you've checked the fluid level and it's correct then look at the handbrake lever. Does the light come on correctly when you pull it on and does it feel firm? Can you make it flicker by gently 'shaking' the lever? If there to much free play in the cables it might be able shake enough to trigger the switch. Also check the connector is firmly seated. You need to take the centre console out to get at it. There's only one wire to it as it earths through the lever.
The sticking caliper can't cause the warning light to come on - that's most likely the pins that need (red rubber) greasing or the pad shims cleaning and lubing with Copperslip. Worth doing both sides while you're at it
