Waxoyl/Lanoguard Treatment

Hi all, my new year’s resolution is to give my SEi a Waxoyl/Lanoguard treatment.

I’m planning on buying pump/spray rod to do the job properly.

Has anyone done this before? Some areas are obvious to treat - arches, wings etc - but has anyone got any tips. I would imagine I’ll be removing the wheel arch liners.

And I’ll take my time over it and do it over a couple of weekends.

I used BiltHamber Dynax UC on my recently acquired Up! GTI-it's clear so doesn't have that horrid, tar like consistency of other treatments. Easy to apply and dries to a clear, wax like film that water beads off. It seems excellent stuff!

Make sure you get the car as high off the ground as possible to save missing bits.

Thanks for this - I’ll definitely check this out. Also interested to hear about your VW Up! as I really like them!

Whatever you use is a good idea and definitely makes a massive difference in preventing or slowing the usual rust spots.

Personally i used Dinitrol which has dobe a good job on various of my cars.

You need to do inside the sills both sides, for this i used a long tube sprayer attachment, there are access points from the wheel wells down at sill level as i recall

Also do inside the bottoms of all doors, this requires door cards off to do properly

Also take out boot trims and do down inside the rear arches between outer and inner

Cant think of anywhere else specific other than any other hidden box sections you can find.

I did mine when i first noticed signs of rust spots on rear arches back in 2006 and 15 years later they're still good

Just remember to ensure no drain holes get blocked though, in the sills and door bottoms. Clear them with a wooden toothpick or similar after application

Apologies for thread drift...!

It's a cracking little thing-a bunny rabbit with spiky teeth! As many motoring hacks have observed, the power to weight ratio and vital stats are uncannily similar to the Mk1 Golf GTI. Whilst things have moved on since then in terms of refinement, it's very spirited and gets better the harder you lean on the chassis.

I'm considering upgrading the suspension to either Bilstein or KW coilovers as it does run out of damping on very busy roads. The other oft talked about change is upgrading the eco focused Goodyear tyres (and dropping their pressures from the standard 37psi!) to Michelin Pilot Sport 4's.

It settles down nicely to a 70mph cruise and seems very economical-even running mine in I've seen mid 50's.

The tartan seats are a nice touch, if lacking in lateral support (much like the 200Vi & BRM seats!) and the Beats upgraded stereo is good. Why oh why VW decided not to install Apple CarPlay though I have no idea-their own interface is shockingly bad and has to be set up and connected in exactly the right order, or the phone won't connect.

Downsides? The above "running out of damping", it could use a tad more steering feel and front end sharpness (the aforementioned coilovers should hopefully help with all of these) and it was delivered with a distorted window channel, meaning the wind noise is horrendous.

Unfortunately, VW customer services and their dealerships (with the exception of the service manager at my local outfit) seem universally horrendous-it will be my first and last VW. Quite frankly, the attitude of VW CS has been utterly disgraceful-I've been met with a metaphorical shrug of the shoulders and "What do you expect us to do about it?" when complaining about a part having been on back order for two months and counting!

In summary-great car, awful company and dealerships which have spoiled the experience. I'll probably look at a Hyundai i20N or Toyota GR86 next when replacement looms.

Thanks to all for your replies!

I’ve been talking to a chap at a local garage who has offered use of his ramp which is great for when I come to do it.

Also he recommended waiting until summer and a hot day to apply when it’s least damp, now (Jan) not being a good time of year to do such a task.

Will update the thread when I get round to doing the job during the year!

I can agree with the waiting for summer as you need to warm the spray up (a lot in my unit) as it gets to thick to spray.
Can use boiling water or butane burn, but the hot water is more even.

Also make sure you get in all the corners this is why these aches have survived and the car wants to be dry so summer is the time for wax and oil goes on better when it dry also the last thing you want is missing a spot that is damp this will just accelerate the process of DOOM . I put a camera down the channels first if is clean wax if its rusty oil .

These were of a 200 in a breakers unfortunately but now being fitted to save another :clapping
