That's exactly what I did. Bear in mind that cutting through the brass insert inside the black plastic nuts will cause it to heat up, so you could try either taking your time and doing a little bit of cutting on all 4 door bolts in sequence and return to the first one again so they have time to cool down, or drip some water on the disk whilst cutting.

I made this mistake on the resonator box on the driver's side behind the bumper. I was busy cutting the heads off the seized bolts holding the brackets onto the box and the ABS box material just melted and the bolts + their brass inserts came out. Easy fix in this case as you can just clean out the blind hole in the resonator box, fill it with araldite and push the insert back in and let the glue dry overnight.

With the rubbing strips you haven't really got much material to work with if it melts, so be careful...!

I will! Luckily, the other three came off easily.

That’s one more job sorted.

I cut the top off the nut to expose the brass insert and then down one side, trying to miss the steel screw. As suggested, I kept stopping to douse it with water to keep it cool.

Using a small, flat screwdriver, I knocked the plastic away which made it small enough to push through the hole.

I will attempt to remove the screw another time as there is still quite a bit to do before it’s appointment with the bodyshop next Monday.

Thanks for the advice!

It's a pleasure. A select few of us have been where you are now, and I personally remember all these "gotchas" which are quite disheartening when you keep coming across them as it's just one job after another. The hope is that in knowing other people have suffered the same, you won't find it quite so disheartening. It's all worth doing in my opinion as the R8s are brilliant cars and I've never shied away from pouring time and effort into my own cars.
