Done! I'm now the proud owner of 20L of Honda's finest ATF. Thanks for the tip-off!

You did well to get 3.5L out. But did that include whatever was in the pipes and heat exchange chamber in the radiator too?

I normally get out less than 3L. If I quickly start the car and put the box into drive, then knock it to neutral and turn the engine off, I get a few more spurts out However, that risks damaging the box.

I only did it once, just to see whether I got a lot more out. I didn't. So I guess I'm back to just accepting I'm getting less than 3L out and I need to keep doing the changes.

Your fluid looks "burnt." Mine looked like that when I did the first change.

It's that ruby red colour now after 3 changes, and I'm about to do the 4th with the new fluid. It's absolutely clean too, so I'm happy.

The thing with the Honda auto box is that there is no removable filter. Later auto boxes do have a removable microscreen. It looks as if Honda just put a "particulate trap" inside the box (a microscreen filter plate in the bell housing presumably covering some kind of cavity) and expect that to fill up with nasty particles over the lifetime of the box.

So to my mind, it's preferable to keep the box oil really clean / fresh all the time as that's the only real way of getting rid of any particulates / contaminants.

That actually looks 'clean' compared to what came out of mine initially, and as for the power steering system, check yours.

That was just from the box, but I did it cold and on a drive slightly sloping down on the same side as the box not sure if that made a difference ?

Jay2oh wrote: Mon May 27, 2024 9:08 am I've decided to put a separate cooler onto the front of a manual rad for the box.

I've seen these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176376431876 ... media=COPY

Just not sure if they would be adequate. I wont be towing anything other than a small trailer once in a blue moon and they also sell larger 6 row ones but really don't know.

Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated.
Did you do this yet? Any pics?
