New member based in Essex

Post by tnj0133 »

Evening all,

My wife and I have recently bought a 97 Cabriolet (Nightfire Red) that needs a fair bit of work (intentionally). Needs left hand sill, a new left wing (front), a new roof, and a dent and rust fixing on/near the rear wheel arch.. you've guessed it left hand side again. Previous owner must have parked it with the passenger side next to a windy beach for some time *laughs*. The good news is the mechanics are tip-top including new h/gasket etc.
Also need some original Rover Cab alloys as someone put some very nice (but not my taste) expensive Fox Alloys on our car.

This is my fourth 200 and first cabriolet, previously had 2x 214sli's and a 216gsi.
Planning to get the current car up to a good standard and bring it along to a few meets etc

Any advice anyone could offer regarding the parts I need or can recommend a local-ish body repair person (preferrably a rover enthusiast) would be welcome, particularly prices, never had any work like this done before so I wouldn't know if I was being ripped off or not.

Would like to get hold of a new burgundy Mohair roof too - again, any recommendations welcome.

Look forward to meeting some of you in the near future - will put some pics up of the car soon

Hi all, thanks for your replies,

216secoupe, I'd appreciate those details for the body shops if you've used them or someone you know has and can recommend them. Brentwoods not too far if the price/quality is right.

Anyone got any rough ideas what I should pay for a sill replacement including spraying? - appreciate any help here at all

Hi discodude,

thanks for the idea on price for a hood - been quoted £495 (fitted) for mohair in Croydon - think that's black though so probably be about the same as yours was for burgundy. I've heard mohair is harder to maintain/keep clean - is it true?

any ideas on sill replacement costs - it's an MOT failure, so a bit concerned about that one - although I have got until August

Hi Carl,

Leicester is a bit of a trek especially as I'll probably be using it as my daily driver when the company diesel Vectra goes back in June

do you the bodywork or you know someone who does it?
