Since the last update I've managed to get a bargain bonnet and rear boot lid with spoiler from ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... _500wt_948

Ok so it isn't the right color but seeing as I have to paint other bits I may as well do the bonnet as well. And at that price I would be mad not to go for it.

I'm picking it up tomorrow and will have a look at what else he has around.

As for the the tahiti blue car I thought I had lost it the other day but a phone call tomorrow might resurrect the deal and therefore give me the interior bits I need.

Work has finally started again on Homer after taking the rear shocks and springs off the donor car.

I've been cleaning the replacement shocks and springs so that they can be painted and then fitted to the car when I eventually get it back from the garage after I locate a suitable sump for it.

The eagle eye'd among you will notice that in the before picture the shock is blue and in the after pic it is black. It is because I used a shot of the shock I hadn't done yet not only that but the donor car appears to have had a replacement shocker on one side at some point before we got it. Nevermind though as it sat right when it had it on.

I've just got to decide what color to paint them now before I get on with the front ones. Once they are removed from the donor car that is....

Things seem to be looking up on the parts front for Homer.

I've been back in contact with the scrap yard I got the other sump for which was an 820 sump and as I've got some replacement suspension with spax lowering springs to go onto the car the 820 sump won't work as I will catch it on the various speed bumps round my area. They have said they will replace it with the correct shallower sump so the grounding issue will be no more. Not only that I've also got a cheap turbo sump coming as well from another source as a spare. I know i'll need to seal the oil return pipe but that doesn't worry me.

I've also got my rear lower suspension superflex bushes coming in the morning to go onto the car.

The plan is for tomorrow to get the 820 sump off in the post or at least booked to be taken by courier and sent back and also to paint the springs on the rear shocks that I cleaned up the other day to get them looking nice.

In between all this I've got an MOT to account for for my everyday 2.0 td zafira. So this week could be interesting.

Sump arrived in the post today along with the oil pick up pipe. Managed to get hold of a turbo sump for decent money and I know I'll have to sort some way of sealing the oil return pipe bit but that is the least of my worries now.

Will be a few weeks more before it's stopped bleeding oil and hopefully I can get it back and make a start on the bodywork and interior.

Picked up a bargain I won off ebay the other day

Had a bit of trek to get it but still worth it.

Solid enough and just a little surface rust to get rid of but can't wait to fit it and see how it sounds.

Bit of work carried out this morning on Homer at the garage.

Replaced the drivers side rear cluster making it look a little neater

Image

I also got a chance to fit the replacement door card to the drivers side minus the slashes in the arm rest.

Image

I did think it was about time I took a proper front facing pic of the car though seeing as I didn't really have one in my collection.

Image

That was pretty much it though for the day on the actual car. The planned attack on the holey sump didn't come to pass and will get done at some point over the next week.

Then went back to my mates house to get to grips with taking off the front suspension on the Homer donor so I can get on with cleaning it up before fitting it to Homer at a later date.
All I can say is I hope I didn't give myself a hernia trying to get the pinch bolt out of the leg as it is still seized in place even though we have used all the tools at our disposal including a grinder to which we cut the bolt in half but it the shock still doesn't want to come away from the leg.

So I'm going to have to give it a rest for the rest of the week and attack it again on my next days off or at least when I can get an hour and some strength back

I managed to get the front shocks removed from the legs today. What a chew on it was to remove. The pinch bolt was totally welded on so the other day GBS100 cut the bolt in half and after a load of messing about trying to remove it I came to the conclusion that I would need to cut the leg to be able to remove the strut/spring section.

So today I cut the other side of where the pinch bolt had been cut and I finally managed to free both of th struts.

Image

As you can see from the photo I also painted the rear struts and springs due to the paint wearing away over time.

I'm going to leave the paint on the front springs as it isn't that bad compared to the rear ones.

Can't wait to see what the car looks like with them on and the 17" wheels are refurbished and on the car as well.
