1992 216 gti tc rolling resto

Post by stuartsports05051985 »

hello, i will try and post some progress updates on the 216 as i go. first job was sorting the bonnet release mechanism, it wasnt closing correctly and took a lot of force to get it to latch. a good cleanput and re adjustment heped somewhat, but can anyone conform
if the support bar should be totally verticle? as i think it might have had a little knock thus moving the latch unit down a bitImage

i found this on the way, job for another day!

it seems the strip had shrunk somewhat, so elongated the mounting slots and some superglue have give a temp fix till i find a replacement

Rover25x, the hole is the box was a nightmare after 200 miles, ended up putting my earphones in, the resonance is particularly bad at 60-70!

Cabriolet106, cheers for the offer will bare it in mind for when I get stuck with something.

On with timing belt just now which is fun.

Gbs100, I'll send u a pm re that panel if that's ok.

Just a tip with the bumper strip glue - superglue isn't waterproof. You'll need to use Araldite 2-part epoxy or Gorilla glue (which is water-activated) if you want a permanent fix. If you use either of these, getting the glue off for the proper fix may cause you some problems, so use sparingly. The other option is to use GT Pro tape - double-sided foam tape with very sticky acrylic adhesive. Does eventually rub off with your fingers if you need to remove it - but it's hard work.
