Re: Durham club members?
We have a number of club members in the Teeside area and in pre Covid times they held bi monthly local meetings. They are intending to re-start these in the new year. Unfortunately most of them don't post on the forum very often.

Re: Durham club members?
Hi,
Yes it’s an L series diesel. Just stripped the pump off.
Fault is smoking and misfiring at higher revs. Starts first time easy, idles fine but misfires and smokes at 2500 rpm plus.
I thought it might be the timing solenoid on the Bosch vp30 pump, the car has been stood previously for a couple of years.
Think it might be time to try another pump.
Cheers

Re: Durham club members?
Is your misfire a 'kangarooing' effect (like a petrol car when the rev limiter cuts in), or more like losing a cylinder or two?
I would usually associate excessive smoke with an air leak on the boost side, when the engine does not get enough air to burn the fuel that the pump has been asked to deliver.
One of my cars suffered a pump failure, but it was a 'sudden death' thing: sitting at a junction waiting to pull out, the engine just stopped and then would not restart. Prior to this, the orange warning lamp had been on for a couple of thousand miles but there had been no particular detriment to performance or difficulty starting. The same car has had a slight 'hesitation' or 'stutter' at approx 2000 rpm until the engine is fully warmed up, and this was present with both the old pump that failed and its secondhand replacement.

Re: Misfire excessive smoke
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Managed to get another vp30 injection pump and that has cured the problem so far so fingers crossed that has done the trick.
Merry Christmas.
