Re: 25th Birthday Party - 21st Sept 2014 - Heritage Centre

This. Often gives an opportunity for those of us who have no interest in getting the polish out. I like to see cars in 'used' condition myself as well as spotless. Looks like I should be there with my J-reg 1992 'wrong grille' 416SLi. Maybe someone could sell me the correct grille? :laughing2 Drat....

Re: 1992 416SLi

That's probably the best solution. The paint on the bonnet is utterly ruined anyway. It looks like it went through an automatic car wash, but someone had replaced the brushes with wire wool.

Re: 1992 416SLi

Ah, that explains it. Presumably it'd be quite easy to remove vinyl to uncover the paint beneath. I'd wrongly assumed they were painted, which would make it a much bigger job! Tricky to know what to do next really. Removing the silly 200 rear spoiler will reveal holes in the boot, just like removing...

Re: 1992 416SLi

As far as I can find out, it could well be that the non-grey sides are correct - 1992 was the changeover I think? Anyway, further de-stickering has occurred today. I reckon this car is starting to look quite nice. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/t1.0-9/10570430_101526841995232...

Re: Odd steering behaviour

I have no history with the car at all, so no idea about anything! Certainly something to consider though, so thanks for that.

Odd steering behaviour

There's something not right with my 416. It occasionally feels very torque-steery but there's also an occasional clonk in very slow, very tight-lock scenarious. With the front in the air, there appears to be no play at the hubs - though I've not yet repeated those tests with a lever acting on the ty...

Re: 1992 416SLi

They're definitely off a later car. Previous owner changed them - which is why the front number plate is a bit squiffy. It's the non-grey body sides that are confusing me most.

Re: 1992 416SLi

It's the lack of two-tone that really confuses me. I know it shouldn't have the grille (shame the bonnet is a mess behind it). Has someone painted the lower half to go with the bumpers? I believe those have been swapped from a later car. It's a right mish-mash!

1992 416SLi

My 416SLi as per the intro section. https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t1.0-9/10390982_10152648088258200_7194124700903352047_n.jpg https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t1.0-9/10502154_10152646383068200_6678300118084226770_n.jpg And here's what it looked like up until last w...
